Book Discussion

Wednesday, June 14th
11:15 a.m.

This is the story of how upward mobility really feels. J.D.'s grandparents moved from Kentucky's Appalachia to Ohio in hopes of escaping poverty. They raised a middle-class family, but they struggled with the demands of their new life. The abuse, alcoholism, poverty, and trauma that were characteristic of their old life, could not be completely left behind.

The story of the author’s journey from a troubled, addiction-torn Appalachian family to Yale Law School is at once shocking, heartbreaking, gut-wrenching, and hysterically funny.

The library's adult book discussion group is open to all who are interested in reading and discussing a book together. Books are chosen ahead of time. Multiple copies are available at the library's check-out desk. Readers may also place their own holds on the book, e-book, or audiobook.

To find out about upcoming book discussion titles see our Selection List 2017.
